Ingredients

1 stick unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ c firmly packed brown sugar

2 eggs, slightly beaten

2C flour

2 tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp ground ginger

½ tsp ground cloves

½ tsp mace

½ c milk

1 c canned or fresh pumpkin puree

½ c chopped walnuts or pecans

confectioners sugar, for dusting

Preparation

With electric mixer, beat butter until creamy, add brown sugar and beat until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition until mixture is light and fluffy.Sift together dry ingredients. Add 1/3 to egg and sugar mixture, along with 1/3 pumpkin and milk, beat, repeat. Fold in nuts. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pan , transfer to wire cake rack and let cool for 1 hour. Dust with confectioners sugar.
