Ingredients
1 Cup Shortening
1/2 Cup Butter or Margarine
2 tsp. Baking Ammonia (Ammonium Carbonate)
2 Cups Sugar
2-1/2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Coconut
Powdered Sugar for dusting
Preparation
Crush the Ammonium (if not powdered) between two pieces of waxed paper, avoid inhaling. Cream shortening and butter together, add ammonium and sugar. Mix until well blended. Add the flour, a little bit at a time. Stir in coconut. Chill dough in bowl for at least one hour. Preheat oven to 325. Form dough into small balls (about 1 inch big) and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 325 for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly brown. Roll on powdered sugar while they are still warm. Enjoy!
