Ingredients

3/4 C. shortening

2 C. sugar

3 eggs, well beaten

1 C. mashed potatoes (with a little salt)

2/3 C. buttermilk

2 C. flour

1 1/2 tsp. soda

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. nutmeg

3/4 tsp. ground cloves

1 C. chopped pecans

1 C. dates (chopped and firmed packed)

Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add well beaten eggs and mashed potatoes stir until blended. Sift dry ingredients together and cover dates and nuts with a small amount of flour mixture. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk. When well blended stir in nutmeats and dates. Bake in greased and lightl floured 9x13-inch pan or small angel food cake pan in 300 degree oven for about 1 hour.
