Ingredients
*Unbaked pastry for a 9" single crust pie
*1/2 tsp cinnamon
*4 large fresh pears - about 2 pounds
*1/3 C sugar
*1-2 tbsp cornstarch
*1/4 tsp salt
TOPPING:
*1/2 C sifted flour
*1/4 tsp salt
*1/4 C sugar
*1/2 C shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
*1/4 C melted butter
Preparation
1 - pare, core & slice pears to measure 5 cups. Combine sugar, cornstarch & salt. Mix with pears and turn into pie shell. 2 - prepare topping by combing flour, salt, sugar, cheese & melted butter until crumbly. Sprinkle topping on pears. 3 - bake on low rack in a 425 degree oven for about 25-30 minutes or until pears are tender & crust is crisp & golden brown. Serve warm topped with ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
IMPORTANT - bake on bottom rack!
